The. Customs Department replied that each of the Indian members of the team would be permitted to enter New Zealand for a 1 period of six inontha on payment of a deposit of £lO, which amount would be returned on hip departure from the Doinimon. The payment of such deposit would be waived if the Association, together with an approved surety, would enter into a bond of £IOO guaranteeing that , the Indians of the team would leave New Zealand within six months of their arrival, and that any expenses which might be incurred by the Government consequent on the non-fulfilment of such guarantee would be defrayed by the Association. A draft of the bond was attached to the Department's letter. In reply to another letter from the Association applying that the regulations be waived, and that the party be allowed to land as ordinary citizens of the British Empire, the Department forwarded a revised form of bond, and stated that the suggestion could . not be adopted, but the Department would offer all possible facilities. The chairman (Mr H. S. J. Goodman) said that the Department had met them in a reasonable way, and they were now quite satisfied.
