VOLCANO ACTIVE. RUMBLINGS AND TREMORS. (BMCUL 10 "ISX FUSS.'') AUCKLAND, April 27. The activity of Ngaurulioe is undiminished. Heavy black smoke was emitted throughout Sunday, accompanied by rumblings and vibrations. The crater was still throwing out vast clouds of smoke early yesterday morning, but for the remainder of the day clouds obscured the view of the moun» tain. A message from liaetihi confirms the report that Ngauruhoe has been very active during Uie last few days. Huge tongues of flame, and volumes of emoKe have been issuing from the crater, providing a magnificent spectacle. Sunday was an exceptionally clear day, and a good v.\sion was obtained A huge column of smoke rose to a great height, being hundreds of feet from tne summit.

Visitors from Taniwai say that on Sunday rumblings from the mountain could clearly be heard at that place. Ngauruhoe was visible from Taupo on Saturday evening, and on Sunday. A party crossing the lake on Saturday night saw what appeared to be flame issuing from the crater, deep rumbles like heavy thunder accompanying each outburst. Magnificent views were obtained from Taupo on Sunday of frequent "shots" which sent up enormous clouds of black smoke, some being aocompanied by heavy rumblings. G. Wratten, of Cambridge, and a friend who spent the week-end camping on Wairoa Plains at the foot of the mountains, report having spent a very anxious time on Saturday night. Early on Saturday afternoon Ngauruhoe began to rumble very fiercely, and send up dense volumes of smoke. Throughout the night the "shots" became more frequent and louder, resembling the report of great cannon. These explosions caused the ground to tremble, and stones and rocks could be heard pouring down like hail on an iron roof. After daybreak there was one tremendous report, which sent up_ a hujre black column of smoke to a height of about 1500 feet.
