METHODIST CHURCH.

INDUCTION SERVICE AT ADDINGTON. There was a crowded attendance of members and friends of the Methodist Church, Addington Circuit, at the Union School Hall, Selwyn street, on the occasion of the induction and welcome to the Rev. Arthur and Mrs Liversedge, who have just taken up residence in the district. The presiding minister, Rev. E. D. Fatchett (chairman of the district), was welcomed by the steward, Mr R. Lockwood. Following the reading of appropriate scripture, Mr Patchett led in prayer of invocation, after which the hymn, "The Church's One Foundation," was Bung. The induction then proceeded, the congregation, in token of reception of their new pastor, later signifying this by rising to . their feet. Following further prayer,,, and. the singing of another hymn, Mr Patchett .delivered a thoughtful and inspiring address. The circuit stewards extended a hearty welcome to Mr Liversedge and his wife on behalf of the congregation and circuit, after which Mr Liversedge brie(ly returned thanks. The gathering then took the form of a social hour, presided over by the circuit steward, Mr, R. Lockwood. Speeches of welcome were delivered by Mrs J. Voss (representing the ladies of the circuit), and Messrs C. Comber, J. Voss, and Mr J. H. Jones, who represented the several churches in the district, apd musical items were contributed by Miss U. Steel, Mesdames J. Fletcher, W. Fehsenfeld, aqd Mr Goslin, and Miss Jessie McKenzie and' Mr J. Voss gave recitations. In returning thanks, Mr Liversedge spoke of his work in the ministry, and sought the prayers and co-operation of officers and people. There were many present who were old friends, some from other churches in the City, and he felt that he had come "home.", Mrs Liversedge also spoke briefly, and dealt with the matter of work among the women and visitation. ' A comprehensive vote of thanks was made to Mr Patchett for his able conduct of the induction service, and to the ladies for supper arrangements and the floral decorations.
