LOCAL MANUFACTURES.
INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION MEETS. The Executive Committee of the Industrial Association of Canterbury met last night. Present —Mr E. H. Marriner (in tho chair), and Messrs S. Jackman, H. Hutchinson, H. Burson, George Cooper, Harry Willis, 11. H. Wilson, ¥. W. J. Belton, D. Colquhoun, E. Archbold, S. H. Maddren, and F. T. Boyee. The chairman reported that the matter of using New Zealand made gramophones had been urged upon the Department, • and it could only be hoped that tho Association's representations would he considered. It w&s decided to further urge the Minister of Education to consider the using of New Zealand gramophones. The secretary reported that many favourable replies had been received to the Association's circular regarding the Ideal Home Exhibition, while n few manufacturers had expressed themfieives as unwilling to participate. The eommitteo was going itito the matter of obtaining the Caledonian Hall for the exhibition, the provisional dates being fixed as June l*2th to. 23rd. A resolution was passed urging the Government nqfc to allow goods from late enemy countries into New Zealand free of duty where similar articles were made in New Zealand. The following resolution was carried : "That this Association congratulates the Precision Engineering Company upon having, under very difficult circumstances, accomplished tne tusk of carrying out its work in connexion with the motor-car number plates for 1926, more especially as the time allowed for of the work was vciy short, and, taking into consideration the manufacture and installation of new machinery, it is considered that the company has done exceedingly well, and that the result is a distinctly forward 6ten for New Zealand." A further resolution was carried urging tho Government that tenders for the manufacture of number plates for 1927 should be called for not later than May 21st, to give manufacturers time to make necessary arrangements.
