♦ NORTH CANTERBURY SOCIETY. MEETING OF! COUNCIL. The Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met last evening Mr h. A. Shand presiding over n good attendance. A communication waß received from the Department of Internal Affairs, enclosing a warrant from the New Zealand Gazette declaring as a sanctuary for native and importod same all that part of tho Avon from the North Lino railway bridge to the north and tho Page's road bridge, New Brighton, to th o south. —Received. Mr J. Bodelph wrote complaining that Mr Elisor, of St. Jamos Statipn, was demanding a fee of 15s from sportsmen wishing to shoot deer, geeso, ducks, etc., ori Lako Guyon. On the motion of Mr M H. Godby, 1i was decided to inform Mr Bedelph that the Society had no power to interfere with rights over private property . The Ashburton Acclimatisation Society adr vised that the following motion would be put at its annual meeting:'' That tho l lshing season for trout open on October 15th and close on April 30th each year, and that the quinnat salmon Beason close on April SOtn |n each year." . , „ .... It was resolved to advise the Ashburton Society that the quinnat salmon season was under the control of the Marine Department. Mr Wyon Williams gave notice that he would movo a resolution on the lines indicated by tho Ashburton Society governing the season for trout. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the Society on May 12th.
