COMMEMORATION.

A NEW COLLEGE CEREMONY. 'A new annual ceremony—"Commemoration Day"—is to be inaugurated at Canterbury College on Thursday next. Commemoration Day at Oxford is the ceremonial closing of the academic year, and "Commencement" is the term for the equivalent ceremony at Cambridge. 'The Oxford ceremony consists of a Latin oration in commemoration of benefactors and founders, the recitation of prize compositions, and the conferring of honorary degrees. The ceremony at Canterbury College next week will consist of an address in comrriemoration of benefactors, and an address on "The University and Its Function," which will be delivered by Dr. Denham, the Professor of Chemistry. Short speeches will also _be delivered -by persons representative of other than purely University interests. These proceedings will.take place in the College Hall, and afterwards the College will be thrown open to inspection by the guests, who will_ consist of graduates and representative publio persons.
