COUNCIL APPROVES PLANS. TO SEAT 1275. The final drawings for the" proposed Municipal Concert Hall an3i "Theatre were laid on the table at last night's meeting of the City Council, and the Concert Hall and Offices Accommodation Committee sought authority to take the necessary steps to proceed with the erection of the building. The plans provide for a building to cost within the estimate of £35,000, but the cost will probably be about £28,000. There will be two entrances from Manchester street, each with a portico surmounting it. The seating accommodation will be for 1275 people. The auditorium will contain four aisles, and there will also be a gallery constructed on 'the fines of a picture' theatre gallery. Upstairs there will be a foyer and a lounge, and downstairs cloakrooms will be provided for each sex. Access to the gallery will be by way of a double flight of stairs meeting at the ton. The ststge, which will be 70 feet by 30 feet, will be reducible to the dimensions of a concert platform by means of a mechanical device Bhould it be necessarj to do this at any *i me - Space is provided for an organ should it be decided to erect . one in the future. Cr. C. T. Aschman (chairman of the Committee) .said in answer to a question, that in the case of a political or other big meeting, another 250 people could be accommodated on the stage.
