RANGIORA. The quarterly meeting of the North Canterbury branch of tho Methodist Sunday School Union was held in tho •Methodist Schoolroom, Rangiora, on Saturdav afternoon. Mr Lawry, of New Brighton, presided. The visitors were welcomed by Mr C. S. Avers, The opportunity was taken to entertain the members of the local branch of the School of Religious Instruction. The address was given bv the Rev. « . G. Slade. of Kaiapoi. The Rangiora and Southbrook Sunday Schools entertained the visitors to afternoon tea. KAIKOURA. Following the heavy snowfall cf Wednesday, there has been a welcome rain and cooler weather. The Takahanga Improvement Committee decided to hold a gala day and art union. Sub-committees were appointed to carry out <he various sports, side-shows) and produce stalls. The Natives will carry out a special programme, including the roasting of a bullock. ' The object aimed at is to secure £ISOO. At til.;. Suburban Hall on Friday night there was a crowded attendance at a social in aid of the Convent school prize fund. Songs were contributed by Mrs Wilkinson and' Mrs A. B. Clark, a violin solo by Mr S. J. MogrWge, and piano solos, duets, nnd dance music bv Misses E. and M. Mackle. Wareham (2), and Mr Rob, Clark. Tho lucky waltr, was won by Mrs G. K. Chapman and Mr Thompson.
