Boys' High School A, 53 a.nd 37 for three tickets, defeated Marist Brothers' S'chool, 49, hy nine nine on the first innings. Linwood had the bye. COUNTIES' MATCH. ASHBURTON V. MALVERN. The Ashburton Counties cricket match, 'Ashburton v. Malvern, 4hc first representative match jilayed at Ashburton this season, took place on Saturday, when a visiting team from the Malvern Association wero defeated by an innings and GS runs. The ground was in good order, and the weather fine, though threatening. Ashburton went to the crease first and made 233. Malvern mado an unimpressive, start, tho first four men being scut back to tho pavilion for a total of 17. Page, tho fifth man, made a good 6tand, and was responsible for the highest score, having 41 to his credit when he was lbw to a ball from Grieve. The tail refused to wag at all vigorously, and the board showed only 7(5 when tho iunings was concluded. With 157. to equal Ashburton's first innings total, the visitors faced a difficult proposition,, and ono that was too much for them. Three men were out without a figure being noted, and the side were only able to make 89 altogether. Boulnois made 27, and Koper 20. Ashburton's bowling was good, and during tho match McGregor took seven wickets for tho small total of 47 runs.
