Turning for home Ayrburn and Eaton Bells headed Mocrland off, and Miss Minerva put in a run on the outside. A furlong and a half from home there was a scrimmage, and Miss Minerva went on to win by a length and a half from Eaton Bells, who was three lengths in front of Moorland. Clareina was fourth. Time, lm 13 4-58. Winner bred by E. Gates and trained by R. Emerson. NOTES ON THE RACING. Eoamark, the favourite for the Otaia Hurdles, did not flatter his supporters at any stage, and in finishing fourth was only passing beaten horses. He has not done a great deal of work lately, and the outing should make him a better horse on Saturday. Timaru made a very good showbur. until tha

last fence, which he hit hard, ami nearly came down. Frisco Mail and Projuclnr were always prominent, and the former won so easily "that it looks as though KoimmrH will be the only horse likely to beat Inni if produced again on Saturday. Projector run a fair race in second place, but thouch m»k ing a bad mistake along the bark, would havo had little chance of beating the winner. Wharncliffe, who finished third, did •lot jump too cleanly, and should improve with experience. Master Hand was beaten with only half the jor-ncy covered, and none of the others put up a reasonable showing. Serotina was made a very warm favourite for the Spring Stake? from WaiVai.i and Royal Dispatch. Waikaia did not seem quite in the best of health, and was never prominent, but the other two were always prominent, the favourite just lasting lons enough to justify the odds laid on her. Koyal Dispatch, had he gone kindly in the run home, might have won, but in any case his form was good, and he is certain to win a race or two for his present owners. Frivolous stuck to her work gamely, and being only a three-year-old, there is plenty of time before her. Katuna was placed fourth. It was a lair performance for a novice, for he had never appeared in public before, and came from some way back to 6nish where he did. Cornstalk was always well placed, but those in front went a bit too fast for him in the early stages, and he failed to run on. Winkie's Best did not have a great call on Footfall in the betting on the Tesehcmakcr Handicap, these two beinrr the only runners supported at all confidently. The result- was never in doubt, the favourite leading all the way and winning easing up. A little trouble occurred going out of the straight, in which Footfall. Happy Days, and Mountain Lion were concerned, but the result would have been the same had nothing untoward occurred. (.'hickwheat seemed to run into a little trouble at the far bend, but he was then a beaten horse. The English filly Celerity 11. was backed as the best of good things for the Tveho Hack Handicap, with Corn Money the. bestbacked of the othets. The finish lay with these two, the way being made clearer by Zaragoxa and Ronaki meeting- with interference at the start and losing several lengths. When heads were well in line for home there was little danger forthcoming from these behind Corn Money and Celerity JI., and the imported filly 'had the race won half a furlong from home, though she was doing her best till much closer to the post.

There was only a small range in the speculation on Starmist, Monoxide, His Majesty, and Ferino in the President's Welter, and they were Lacked in that order, with Retrospect, at a nig interval, heading the others. It wes a particularly interesting race, the winner turning up in Retrospect, who, with a 51b allowance, stayed on well after haying to cover some ground on the outside of two horses all round the bend. Monoxide ran a. great racs with her weight, but found ] Tib too much of a concession to make to His Majesty, and was beaten rather easily by him for second. JTerino and Brown Lady failed to stay, ailer doing their work well in -front for the first six furlongs. The favourite, Starmist, was doing her best at the turn, and was not dangerous iu the run home, nor were the others.

Gay Queen was made a- solid favourite for the Maiden Pluto, with good money also coming for Receipt. The public had sized up lihe position well, for over the last quarter of a mile it was only a two-horse race. Receipt covered some extra ground when running up to the leaders round the top bend, but it is not likely that she would have won had she taken ihe shortest route, for the Paper Money filly was stopping badly in the -last half furlong. Moratorium came from a long way back io beat Red Heather narrowiy for third money, but like the oth?r runners was outclassed by those who returned the dividends. .Miss Wifckie was the popular fancy for the Kerrytown Hack Welter, s.nd (hen came Goldstcp and, at a big; interval, Windshield. The favourite steered a very erratic course, and when trying to get through at the top of the straight/ she interfered badly with Goldspinner and Cornflower. The latter lost two or three lengths, but came again with rare determination to get up to beat Goldstep and the favourite on the post. Had there been no interference during the limning, Cornflower and Miss Winkie would have been well clear of Goldstep at the finish, and perhaps Miss Winkie would have won, for instead of going ahead when the way was clear her pilot went over to the rail 3 again and lost sufficient ground to cost him the race. Both Windshield and Relic were beaten when the pressure was put on at the top of the straight, and they will need to meet weaker fields in the future, if they are to have a chance of winning. The Flving Handicap was a repetition of the previous race, and rough riding marred the contest. Turning for home, Moorland, Eaton Bell;, and Ayrburn were ill in the running and almost in line. Then Miss Minerva appeared on the outside. Ayrburn was the first to imeet trouble, and Eaton. Bells headed off Moorland a hundred yards from .the post. Eaton Bells wjks clo3e in to the rails, with Miss Minerva paying her close attention. The latter eventually ran out a winner. . An enquiry was held, but it was decided to pay out as the judge had placed ,the hones. So far as the unplaced division was concerned, apart from Ayrburn, there was little to mention.
