SECESSION.
"A FLAGRANT MISTAKE." HERTZOG'S OPINION. (BT CABLE-rRESS ASSOCIATION—COriMOST.) (HECTEII'S TBUSOKAIIB.) GAPE TOWN, April 28.
During the Budget debate ,in the Assembly, General Hcrtzog, Prime Minister, made an important declaration oa the secession question.
Personally, so far as the Union of South Africa was concerned, he thought, secession would be a flagrant mistake, and would bo a national disaster if caused by one section, cither British or Dutch, imposing its will on the- other. He did not fear that secession would arise so long as each section refrained \ e rom asserting its superiority or domi- ] nance over tho others.
(General Hertzog urged that no atttfivpt should be made by either section to w>e the British connexion to establish superiority.
Bcforring to the Budget proposals, the Prime 'Minister favoured a policy of protection vOf local industries and opening of markets for South African products.-
