HINDENBURG ELECTION.

EUROPEAN COMMENT. (BT CABL«—PMBS ASSOCIAWK—COPTKIGHT) (EBUTER'3 TELEGBAJtS.) LONDON, April 28. Von Hindenburg's election to tlw German Presidency has deeply impressed Polish public opinion. The- newspapers are confident that the Allies will take steps to secure themselves against the return of German aggression.

Newspaper comments in Belgrade on Hindcnburg's election, is pessimistic. Tho semi-official organ ''Ketch" declares that the election is a fresh defiance to Europe and the civilised world. Tho election will bo the starting point of a. campaign for an amendment cf all the treaties and the elimination of all obstacles in the -way of Germany again becoming mistress of the world.

The "Daily Telegraph's" diplomatic correspondent gathers that shortly before the German Presidential election, assurances reached London from Berlin, to the effect that Hindcnburg's election would not involve any change in the Reich's foreign policy.

A fear that Hindcnburg will begin to build up a gigantic military machine in Germany was expressed by Mr James Gerard, United States Ambassador to Germany during the Great War, who to-day declared, "Europe will become once more an armed camp if Hindcnburg remains iu power. If I were a German I would have voted for Hindcnburg, as he will unite the factions of Germany, put down tho Reds, face the Soviet and raise hell with the Allies."
