Cabinet approved this morning of the appointment of a vulcan ologist to make in. the thermal regions oi) the Dominion, in accordance with a recommendation from the Board of Scieice and Art, and to report to the Government tho results of his investigations. In announcing tho decision the Minister o| Internal Affairs (the Hon. 11. F. Bollard) pointed out that similar observations nsid produced good results in othir parts of the world, notably iu Japan, where the prediction of a severe .earthquake, by a Japanese scientist enabled thousands of people to desert* the affected district before the big shake actually occurred.
