HOARDINGS.

BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION'S PROPOSED ACTION. Active interest/ in the hoardings question is to be by the Beautifying Association, according to information given to a repotter by Mr R. B. Owen. While not prepared to go as far as to urge the City Council to refuse all future applications for tho erection o" hoardings, it isi proposed to take action that may result/ in the number of existing hoardings • being reduced. "It is tho intention of the executive of the Association." Mr Owen said, "to make a tour of inspection of the hoardings in the city and to make a recommendation to the City Council to reduce the number by declining to renew the licenses in respect of those considered by the Association to be objectionable. This will give the people responsible for hoardings an indication of the way in which the wind is blowing." It is also intended, Mr Owen added, to mako a. similar tour of inspection in respect of sub-stations and other unsightly obstructions in the city. "The, time lias now arrived," remarked Mr Owen, "when all can see that Christchurcli is going to bo a great city, and we of the present day are prepared to do our utmost to keep the founda--tions clear for great civic developments."
