JUSTICES' ASSOCIATION.

♦ A meeting of the executive of tho Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association wa3 held last night. Present: Messrs R. C. Bishop ("chairman), H. H. Smith, A. Williams, C. H. Gilby, G. E. Franklin, H. F. Herbert, James Anderson, F. H. Christian, and J. R. Brunt (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs John Clarke and W. H. Seed- The agenda paper in connexion with the conference in Wellington on September 30th was discussed. Tho Association delegates are Messrs Henry Holland, H. Herbert Smith, and J. R. Brunt. In connexion with tho proposed picnic at Oxford on Labour Day, the sub-committee suggested that the day was not a suitable one, and that the fixture be postponed until a later date. The suggestion was agreed to. Messrs H. F. Herbert and G. E. Franklin expressed a hope that the sub-committee would keep tho fixture in view, 60 that tho country members would not be disappointed. Correspondence was read from Mr L Salek (Wellington Justices' Association) with reference to the business of the conference, Mr George Perry (Mayor o'f Hokitika), and Mr W. C. Raymond (Timaru), with reference to the formation of associations in those towns. Mr James Johnston was elected a member of the Association.
