CANTERBURY ROWING ASSOCIATION. The committee of the Canterbury Eovring Association lield their first meeting «cf tic season last night, there being present: Messrs F. I). Kcsteven (president), W. Duggan, and K. E. Nightingale (viccprcsidenta), H. Layton (honorary secretary), H. H. Berry (Avon), ii. J. Hobba (Canterburv), T. H. Grenfell (Cure), W. Wh.ttmgton (Timaru), G. H. Hobbs and E. S. Velvin (Union), and It. Clarke (Lyttelton). The Xew Zesiand Aasocistion edviaed that the annual meeting wouid be held in Wellington on October 28th. Messrs B. Morris and A. 1). Bayfield were elected the Canterbury Association's delegates, and Mr -Morris was nominated as the Association's representative on the New Zealand l Council. The Wellington Rowing Association advised that they would support tho amendment to rule 35 regarding light-weight maidena as proposed by the Canterbury As- ■ sociation. Regarding "the proposed amendment to Rule 11, and subsequent amendment i to Piule 1 of the constitution, the WellingI ton Association was informed that the I N.Z.A.R.A. had legal advice to the effect that there was no power to alter the constitution of the Association. It was resolved to communicate with the Association representative in Wellington on the matter. Regarding tho remission of duty on. imported racing boats and spoon blade oars and sculls, the New Zealand Association advised that the Minister of Customs would be willing to consider the abolition of the • duty on British boats and sculls and 20 per cent, of the 35 per 0.-nt. duty on loreign boats and sculls provided that the New Zealand builders were not prejudioed. Mr Berry said there were no makers of oars and sculls in New Zealand. It was decided to reply that there were no builders ol racing boats in Canterbury, and 110 makers of spoon blado oara and sculls in New Zealand. Mr Duggan said that certain Christchurch clubs had been waiting now for • two years to get boats made in New Zealand. The New Zealand Association also notified that the way was now open for New Z.aland crew 3 to compete in Australian championships. It waa proposed that an eight should be sent to Sydney in March, 192b. The total expenses would probably amount to £4OO. The chairman eaid that New Zealand could send over a four with a good chance of winning, but not an eight. Mr Berry eaid the inter-State cvenfe were eights. Mr Hobbs said it would be altogether too costly to send an eight .over to Australia, but tho champion four of New Zealand could bo sent over after the Now Zealand championships. The chairman said that New Zealand specialised in fours and not in eights. It was decided to approve, of the idea of Sending over a crew and to assist in the coat. The Christchurch Regatta Club applied for the next New Zealand championship regatta to be held about the end of February. either at Corsair Bay or Lake Forsyth. Mr Berry said it would be better to apply for the championsh'ps the following season. Mt Hobbs said that next season the championships would probibly be held 1 at Dunedin during tho Exhibition. It was decided to apply to the No.v Zealand Association for the championships. The annual meeting was fixed for October 16th. Regarding opening day, tho president stated that all tho" clubs vrero in favour of October 11th. Mr Grenfell suggested that inter-clijb races should he arranged for crews who were not in regatta class and who at present had no opportunity to compete in rtices. It was decided to consider the suggestion at the next meeting.
