MOTOR MISHAPS.

-SEVERAL fatalities. NUMBER OF PEOPLE INJURED. (press association tzlegeams.) WAITAEA, August 11. .An accident occurred last night on the Tikorangi road, whereby Marjory Purdie, aged twenty, lost her life. She was in the side-car of a motor-cycle, and on a straight stretch of road it came into collision with another motorcycle. The impact was severe, and the girl seems. to have been struck on the back of the head, the machine falling on her. She was sent to the hospital, and died five hours later. Douglas Purdie, the rider of the bicycle, and a friend who was riding on the seat behind, escaped with slight injuries. WANGANUI, August 11.

Bryan Felton Dalton, a married man, about forty years of age, a dentist, of Palmerston North, met with a fatal accident about four o'clock this morning, when leaving here for his home in a motQr-car. He was proceeding along Taupo quay, when the ear ran on to the footpath and struck an iron verandah post. Dalton evidently jumped out of the car, as he was found lying face downward oil the footpath with the heavy post across the back of his head, which was badly smashed.

A young motor-cyclist, Frank Hyde, was seriously injured on the railway crossing at Par.iparaumu. When approaching the line he ljstened for the Napier train and, not heading it, went on. He was taken on in the train to Otaki, where he lies in a', serious condition..

A motor accident which occurred on the Mangaroa Hill late on Friday night resulted in the death of Mrs Mary Alexander, of Wallaceville. A motorcar containing three passengers —Mrs Alexander, .her son (Mr Henry Alexander, of Wallaceville), and Mr J. Maher Upper Hutt on Friday evening for Mangaroa Station. After the car began to make the ascent it was discovered that the benzine-tank was low, and to obviate trouble, the car was backed up the hill. In the darkness it ran over the bank and fell about 40ft. Mrs Alexander was killed and her son was injured. NELSON, August 11.

Morton Palmer, while motor-cycling at Waimca West yesterday, came into contact -with a motor-car, jind fractured his left leg. BLENHEIM, August 11. . A motor-car capsized in Springcreek road yesterday, throwing the occupants into the ditch. A little girl, Patricia Ludlow, three years of age, was pinned under the car, and was rescued with difficulty. She received a severe scalp wound, and was nearly drow n ed. The injured child was taken to hospital, and her condition is not grave. . DUNEDIN, August 11.

W. Stewart, aged thirty-five, a married man, working at Portobello, was knocked down by a motor-eyclo in Princes str.eet yesterday. He died in the. hospital after an operation. . ; lIOKITIKA, August 11. In a" motor-car accident on Lake Kanieri road on Saturday evening Mr James Park, Crown Prosecutor, and his wife were seriously injured. The car was being cranked to re : start its journey, when it jumped forward violently, knocking Mr Park down, and, careering along tlto road, capsized. ~,The overturning car pinned Mrs PaTk beneath it. The second, occupant was thrown clear, and was able tp go for help. Both the injured people we're removed to, hospital. , Mr Park iij suffering from concussion and his wife has a broken collarbone and ribs. (SPECIAL TO "THE FBBSS.") GBEYMOUTH, August 11. ' Through missing liis train, which he quitted for a few minutes, Mr E. W. Spencer, manager of the Consolidated Mines, had a narrow escape from a fatal accident on Saturday. He was proceeding to Cliristchurch, and left the train at Ikamatua. It started without attracting his attention, and he was obliged to hire a motor-bus owned by Mr C. Hempseed in an endeavour to connect with the express at Stillwater. At the north end of the big Grey bridge a front tyre blew out, and the 'bus struck one of the end posts, capsizing over an 'embankment and pinning Mr Spencer underneath. One of the bars of the hood held him face downWarrts. When assistance arrived and Mr Spencer was extricated, he was found to be suffering from a broken collarbone and numerous bruises. The driver, Mr B. Neilson, was thrown clear, but suffered cuts', and bruißes. .
