LAKE ELLESMERE DOMAIN BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Lake Ellesmere Domain. Board was held yesterday afternoon at the office of Messrs, W. Jameson and Son. Present: Messrs P. J. Do I'a Cour (chairman); C. Wolfe, (J. H. Bullard (Commissioner of Ci'own Lands), C. If. Cook, I). W. Woodward, U. Mcßean, and K J. Harris.
The balance-sheet for tho year showed a balance to credit of £36'J 13s 3d. The principal items of expenditure were: New works, £O2 10s, anci. wages (maintenance) J9s I'd. Ail rents and feed had been paid. The report stated that tho new tennis court had been completed. . Mr Wolfo moved the adoption ol the balance-sheet, and said tnat it was very satisfactory to learn that all rates and rentvs had been received. This was very creditable to the energy of the secretary (Mr S. Jameson). Tfio present wati the first year that the Board had been in this happy position. Mr Woodward seconded the motion, which was adopted. Messrs Mcßean and Bullard were nominated for the position of chairman hut both declined, and Mr De La Cour was re-elected unanimously. Votes of thanks were accorded the chairman for his whole-hearted services during the past year, and to the secretary. Tho action of the chairman in authorising tho transfer of hut on Section 15 Selwyn Huts, from I. A. Watlcins to'.). R. Proctor, was approved. The caretaker (Mr J. Godfrey) wrote stating that somo of the hut-owners were making tho plantation a lumber heap. ]t was decided to go into this and other matterg on the occasion of the Board's visit to the IXiraain on the 18th inst.
Mr F. J. S. Hill, secretary of the Springston South Gala, wrote thankin t the Board for the formation of. a cycling track and sugge-stiug that more tippers for heating water should be provided. \ It wa.s decided to consider the suggestion when the members /visited tlie jJomain.
The question of the erection of a small hail, held over from a previous meeting, was discussed. Tie chairman said that the proposed hall would be 24ft by 30 or h(jft, and the estimated cost, including the installing of the electric light, was £278. Several residents were anxious to have the hall so that when bad weather interfered with fishing they could have a place to gather m for social purposes.
After a lengthy discussion, no decision was arrived at in the matter, the general opinion being that the Board would be creating trouble for itself unless it had a permanent caretaker to look after the ball and ''he domain.
Mr Cook reported that the Tennis Committee had drawn up certain, rules for the conduct of the tennis courts, whjch they desired the Board to adopt. He read the rules which were designed to prevent any friction between different parties of players. In the-event
of ii picnic party Saving paid for the use of the .coiirts for the day, the rules provided that the fact should be notified on a notice board. .Mr Wolfe expressed the opinion that oven on picnic days one court should be reserved for 'the public. Mr Harris suggested that a cluh should be formed and that it) shornlook after the courts. It was stated that the control could not be handed oiVer to a club. It was decided to approve of the rules proposed by the Tennis Committee, and tliat in tho case of picnic parties only one court be reserved for them on payment of "10s; in the event bf local residents or-hut owners not using the other court, the picnic parties could niso use it.
The Hoard then went into committee to consider letters making certain complaints. '
