TO THE EDITOR OF "THE MESS." Sir, —The most striking result of the election is the fact that only one Independent candidate is likely to get home. At this lam 'not surprised. The Independent, whether he be in Parliament or outside of it, is an unknown quantity—he is neither fish, flesh, nor fowl. Mr Winsor was extremely fortunate in getting home. Possibly he may see the wisdom of ceasing to be ijn Independent in future. —Yours, etc., RATEPAYER.
