CHURCH UNION.

CANON NEVILL'S PLEA

i (special to "the niSßf) ; "I ■ DUNEDIN, February 27. •Becoming serious at the conclusion of a distinctly humorous speech before the Methodist Conference thi» morning, Canon Nevill (who formed one of a deputation from the Council .of Christian Churches), entered a plea for the union of the churches. It seemed to him, he said, that they were all trying to do the same work in the same way, and that they were weakening the Church by their division. They would have to combine to withstand the rising tide of infidelity. "I urge you," he said, "to see if you cannot find some real ways in which practical union can be brought about, so that we can do the work that we were sent here to do, and not be continually clashing. All reasons —financial, social, and spiritual —point to the Church that it is time to set her house in order."
