. MALVERN. At the monthly meeting of the Malvern County Council there were present-Crs. Knight (chairman), Wright, Raid, Adams, 'Hawke, Murchison, arid Judd. The tender of Mr Palmer, Coalgate, was accepted for etonebreaking on Broughtons Correspondence was received from the -Railway Department stating that the road diversion at Annat was complete. The Council were quite agreeable to take the road! over as it had been left in a most satisfactory condition. The Medical Officer of Health wrote, suggesting a basis fcr the payment of a proportion of the sanitary inspector's salary, which waa agreed to. , The tender of Air A. Hawkins waa accepted for re-opening thj public road from Austins bridge towards Waadington on the left bank of the Hawkins river. The caretakers reported that all the Council's cleaning was finished, but that a. number of occupiers had not taken advantage of the water being eft to get their work done. It, waa resolved that workmen be put on where reclined. Rutherford. The organiser of the County Progr:ss League forwarded a circular asking for suggestions, if any, for the improvement of local traffic on the railway. It waa decided to pay the 25 per cent, increase for this year on the contribution to tho Health Officer. Messrs Murdonald and Barnett stated that the hardwcod timber for the Lower Waiau bridge would be delivered in January next. The clerk was directed to submit proposals to the District Engineer for Jameson's road, Tefcoa road, Sanderson's road, and Lyndon roads.

The secretary of tlie South Marlborough Progress League wrote regarding the foot of the Conway cutting. The engineer report d> that it was not so bad as represented, and it waa decided that the cutting should receive its usual attention.

Jollie's Pass, Hanmer, is being used by motorists, and it was decided to warn them to ascertain if wool waggons were likely to descend, before they made, the ascent. Permission, subject to usual conditions, waa granted Mr G. H. Nicholls to lay an inch pipe from his water-race. Receipts for the month in the general account had, it was reported, amounted US £IM 14m. KOWAL The monthly meeting of the Kow&i County Council -was held at Balcairn on Friday. Presentr-Ora W. H. The clerk was instructed to procure two tents for. the road gansr, who.',would be working on the Bam Paddock road at an early dato, and also to ascertain the cost of painting the Ashley bridge and to hoti\ contributing bodies that it was the intention of the Council to do the work by day labour. The rangor'g report was approved. An application was received from the Kowai Surf Club asking for a contribution to the club's funds It was decided that the sum of £lO be granted. It was decided that tenders for supplying dog collars for 1923 be returnable by next meeting.
