iaiosMOND oLtra. The Bichmond Amateur Swimming Club opened the season on Saturday with a successful carnival at the school baths. Mr J. Talbot, chairman of the Bichmond Sohool Committee, welcomed Miss Gwitha Shand back to phristchnrch. He wished the members of the club every, success, in their endeavours to bring the club back to its;former status in swimming circles. Every Saturday from 2 till 5, he said, there would be mixed bathing, and he hoped the ladies would take advantage of the opportunity. He then declared the season open. A successful swimming carnical was he'd at the'! Hainpstead Soldiers' Memorial baths on Saturday afternoon. The Deputy-Mayor Mt F. Ferriman, in decuaring the carnival open "congratulated the bath committee on the 'good attendance at the opening of the season,'and the great use which was being "made by the Hampstead residents of the fine bath which had been constructed to help to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers from the.district who had fallen during the Great War. During the afternoon H. Scandrett, of Invercargill, gave a fine exhibition of springboard diving. The various resalts were as follows: Schoolboys' Race-First heat: S. Bradford 1 C. Hume 2.
