DRAPERS AND CLOTHIERS' CONFERENCE.
(press association telegram.) DUNED'IN, February 16. The New Zealand Federation of Drapers and Clothiers held its first annual conference to-day, Mr J. Rendell (Auckland) presiding. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr Rendell • vice-president, Mr E. H. Wyles (Ohristcnurch); member of the Advisory Board, Mr W. SLmm (Wellington); auditor, Mr M. E. Nicholls (Wellington). It was resolved that the conference affirms the desirability of closer co-operation between employer and employee, and the inauguration among members of a systematic course of instruction to encourage greater efficiency among the junior members of the staffs; also that the proposal that the Government be asked to institute a postage cash-on-delivery system be referred back to local associations for «onsideration. On the question of the dumping of German goods, the Conference passed a resolution urging the Prime Minister to. impress upon the Home Government the need of action to suppress the llow of manufactured goods to the detriment of Home industries and the industries of New Zealand*. _ Considerable time was given to a discussion of wlhat was described as the misleading nature of the Trade information cabled to the New Zealand newspapers, and also to the advertising charges made, and the circulations claimed by some newspapers in which drapers and clothiers advertised extensively.
