The Senate defeated a propose! to apply the closure in the debate on the Emergency Tariff Bill, which action, is regarded as dooming the measure, which the Democrats can talk to death. Even if the Bill is ultimately passed, the Senate will be unable to pass it over the Presidential veto. • There was great opposition to the Bill, following upon announcements that Canada and the Argentine were prepared to introduce retaliatory measures if the Bill were passed.
