CANTERBURY BAND/OF HOPE . UNION. At the amrftal meeting of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union, tho annual report of the executive, showing an increase in the number of affiliated societies, was read and adopted. The balance-sheet 'showed a credit balance of £13 12a Id. The election of officers resulted aa follows.: —President, Mr W. Goodman; vice-presidents, its A. G. Mus■grove, Messrs AV. R. Blazey, T. W. West, and E. A. M. Leaver; secretary, Mr P. C. Lucas; assistant secretary, Mrs J. Fraser; treasurer, Mr F. T. Bovce; executive. Mrs J. TV. Hp 11,' Messrs F. Cole, E. Bilcliff, and C. H. Bascand; auditors, Messrs E. A. Leaver and W. 31. Berrill. It was decided to hold the annual musical and elocutionarycompetitions in October. The following consented to act as judges:—Elocution, Mr RMalcolm; vocal and instrumental items, Mrs H. Ford, Messrs H. Gladstone Hill, J. A. Hough, and A. Owen.

LIJTVVOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the last meeting of the Linwood School Committee a vote of sympathy with Mr and Mr 3 Herbert (whose only, son died of wounds in France) was carried in ei»ence, members standing. The headmaster reported that tho average attendance was 649, and the .average roll number COS. It was decidcd to ask the Board to arrange - a conference with the East Christchurch School I Committee regarding the re-adjustment of boundaries. Me Ears King and iieywood were appointed a Visiting Committee lor the month.
