BOY SCOUTS
DIOCESAN BRIGADE. A social and presentation, of prizes in- con* nexion with the recent flag competition was .held iri St. Michael's Parish nail" on Saturday, and was attended by aver 300 Scout* und Scoutmasters. Troops from Prahfaleton und surrounding districts were present, and a most enjoyable evening woe spoilt. An cscollont programmo was submitted, comprising a lantern lecture on Scouting _o£ Troops in England and elsewhere by District Commander Philip Carrington, which was very interesting and instructive. Other i itouß wore:—Selections by St. IGdtael'a I Scouts Brass Bond; oornet solo and trio, i by members of the Band; knot-tying competition, Scxjuts.' rescue- iaco, Aloree signal- | ling, boxing compeition, conjuring taoks by | Melrose Bros., and songs by several of tlio i Scoutmasters'. A very interesting game, collod Trench Warfare, was demonstrated by two returned soldiers, o/id should be very popular in. all troop frames. Tho Rev. C." E. Perry, vicar of, St.' Michael's, in presenting, the prize*, expressed his pleasure- at the large g&tbeaingr of Scouts, and stated tho Scout movement was world-wide, and worth every boy's attention, : for it taught them to be self-reliant, useful, and good, and ho earnestly oxhorted all tryop.i to keep their interest going, and to always remember tho Scouts' motto of "Be Prepared." He congratulated the bandmaster on tho progress attained by the. band, and expressed the. thanks of the Bri-' gade to tho donors of the valuable prizes presented.
District Commander Carringtan redd- a telegram received from Brigade Conunander. Itcv. H. .T. Allen, regretting kin absence, and wishing the boys n very pleasant evening. Tho success of the gathering was due to the efforts of Chief Scoutmaster Bruorton, nbly assisted by his Scoutmasters, and it Wll9 brought to a conclusion by ft number of Scouts giving the Scorata' haka. Tlie following prizes were presented: Kent cycle, presented by Mr H. .J;' Boron, Scout Lee tcr King (Holy Trinity Iroop); kodac camera, presented by Kodac Australia, Ltd., Scout Simms (St. Miohael'e Troop); combination Scouts' knife, presented by vflr. Sandston, Scout Lampourt (St. MiefateTa Troop); sleuth knife, presented by Captain' F. L Cowliahnw, Scout Douglas Stewart (Holy Trinity Troop).
