General Henderson, Director of Medical Services, spent the day in Christchurch yesterday, and left for "Wellington last night. Mr A. E. W. Wheeler has been appointed acting-eecretary to the Union St-oarn Ship Company vice Mr C. H, Hughes, transferred to Melbourne. Mr F. W. Thompson, who fen- tire past 25 years has carried on business in this city as a surgeon dentist, left last evening for Tauranga, where he is taking over the business of a fellowpractitioner, in order to allow him .to proceed to the front. Our "Wellington correspondent telegraphs that Sir Joseph Ward, who has been confined to his room for a week or ' two by a severe attack of influenxa, was able to return to his Parliamentary duties yesterday. He attended a Cahl- I net meeting yesterday afternoon. At a social evening, held in St. Martin's Church, Spreydon, Private Arthur Ward, of the 14th Reinforcements, was presented by the Rev. C, C. Oldham, on behalf of the congregation, with a wristlet watch. PrivaU' Ward wa s also the recipient of a safety - razor, money-belt, soldier's outfit, fountain pen, and pocket knife from tie' employees of Messrs Royds Bros, and Kirk.. News has been received that PrivaU D. Pritohett has been admitted! to the King Edward VII. Hospital, and , was, so far as is known, successfully -*.• operated on by Sir Arbuthnot Lane;/ on April 18th. The surgeon hopes in, time that both arms may be to use. Private Pritchett i 6 under the , personal care of Captain W. B. Ainger, F.R.C.S., R.A.M.C., an old ChnstY " College boy, and now house surgeon at King Edward VII. Hospital, Grosvenor square, London. ,
