The past month was a very busy one in all departments of the Canterjrtry Public Library, and the number of books issued out for home reading reached a record figure. Seventy-five new subscribers were enrolled. The total number of volumes issued was 8946, compared with 7625 for May, 1015. The demand for works dealing with the war is still increasing." and 739 of these were taken out. A remarkable increase is noted in the magazine issues, no fewer than 1614 having been issued out, compared with 1416 for May last and 1233 for May, 1914. The Juvenile Library continues very popular. Over 500 children are now making good use of the department, and 1511 books were issued out, compared with 1166 for Mav. 1915.
