LYTTELTON. A meeting of the Lyttclton Patriotic Committer was held in the Municipal Buildings on Saturday evening, the Mayor (Mr W. Radcliile) presiding over a large attendance. The treasurer (Mr J. Young) reported that as a result of the dramatic entertainment recently given by the Calliope and Shakespeare Club, Mrs Newell hud handed over the sum of £22 towards the support of the Peninsula Queen. The secretary (Mr T. Wales) reported that satisfactory arrangements were l>eing made in connexion with the fancy fair and sale of produce, to be held in the Lyttelton drillaJied on Saturday next. SPREYDON. A meeting of the Sproydon Patriotic Committee was he-Id on Tuesday evening, about forty mom berg being present. Mr, G. T. Mulcock i:i the chair. The various canvassers reported tluit they had received promises of large quantities of produce for the produce stall ct the gala to be held on Easter Monday. It war. dccided to raffle- the two horses given to the committee by Messrs McMillan and Gordon, and a vote of thanks was passed to the donoifi. SOUTHBRIDGE. Tli? Sou'hbridgo Patriotic Committee met on Thursday evening to receive the statement cf accounts in connexion with the gala held on St. Patiick'o Day. Mr E. G. Hubbard presided over a good attendance. The balanc<*-«hect gave the total receipts as £80S 9s 6d, the principal items being:—Baby Queen ekction £573 17s Gd, old pupils' concert .Gl4 Gs 6d, refreshment and sweets stalls £42 It's 3d, gate- £22 123 2d, sale of Irish flap £171 12a. The total expenditure amounted to tho remarkably small sum of £7 3s 10d, leaving a credit of £891 5s 6d. The secretary reported that of a sum of £460 lCs 6d he "had in hand prior to the gala, £100 had been paid into the bank to tho credit of the Elle-3inere County Patriotic Fund. The committee at present had a sum of £D 45 193 6d in hand.

Mention was made of the further effort to bo- mad™ ill i« ovoning on the occasion of "Ye Dimmow FHtoh" performance at the Southbridge Town Hall, and it was decided to nmk" every offort to increase the balance in hand io £1000. Mr j. H. McMillan apologised for the absence of Mr J. C. Free, and on his belialf introduced fclie question of the Entertainment of soldiers leaving for, and returning from, the front. Mr Free was anxious that the Patriotic Committee should take the matter in hand, as at present there was no committee holding itself responsible for the entertainment of soldiers. -• Messrs Willis, Cowan, and the Rev. Hawkins spoke strongly in favour of the proposal, and. it was unanimously decided that the committee should undertake the responsibility of seeing tKat every soldier leaving the district receive* a fitting send-off.
