NOTES. - Mr H. A. Knight's Varco filly Medley has gone back to Racecourse Hill. J. Olsen had a very successful time at Tapanui on Wednesday. He had a mount in six out of the seven flat races on the card, won four of them, and was second in one and third in another. Tho Westland Racing Club, which had a very successful Meeting at the New Year, i s giving £100 to tho Westland Patriotic Fund. This is tho fourth monetary grant made by the Club for patriotic purposes since war broke out. The Racing Club at Hokitika will celebrate its golden jubilee in January uext. and is already considering ways : and means in regard to the historic occasion. A jubilee cup is likely to be provided by the citizens, while the-Club will probably offer greatly enhanced stakes. There is also a proposal under consideration to erect a stewards' stand and new official accommodation as a memorial of the event. These and other extensions of the paddock accommodation will run into a considerable sum, which shows that the popular old Westland Club is disposed to be progressive as ever.

At Richmond races on December 28th, a gelding bv St. Ambrose from the Artillery—Fallacy mare Marlin, named Ambrosia, won the Richmond Purse, a race for horses and galloways over a course of seven furlongs and a half. Ambrosia was bred at Elderslie in 1906. and was sold as a yearling to Mr G. Payne for 250gs. He was passed on to D. J. Price in Melbourne, in whose colours ho commenced his Turf career in tho Maribyrnong Plate, iu which he was unsuccessful. He was next raced by Mr E. A. Connolly, for whom lie won the Trial Handicap at Williamstown as a three-year-old. but had not done anything till this season to justify his claims of kinship with some of "tho best families that have racod in Australia.

Bv tho Ruahine. Mr W. 11. IC. Wanklyn received his two-year-old filly by Earla Mor 6 from Fotharta. by B'uirtinde C (half-brother to Gnitee More and Ard Patrick) fronx Little May, bv Zcnophon 23. This filly should have come out by the steamer which broueht the Henry First—Minnie Orme filly last October, and which is now "in work at lliccarton. Tiie Earla Mor filly has arrived in very good condition, considering her long voyage from England, and -will quickly become an attractive .youngster. yShe. is of good size, is lengthy, powerful, and has excellent legs and feet. On beinp; landed from the Ruahine the filly had a somewhat narrow escape, as did the several helpers round the horse-box. When the box was about two feet from tho deck the wire rope cracked, and there was an anxious moment for all concerned.

The Hawke's Bay District Committee sat for several hours in Hastings on Friday hearing an apoeai against the disqualification by the Judicial Committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Clnb of the owner of the racehorse Crcesus (G. F. Hardv) and the trainer of the horse (J. S. O'Neill) during the pleasure of the club 011 the ground that Croesus had been pulled in the Summer Handicap, run on tbe second day of the club's New Year Meeting, and the cancellation of the license of H. Griffiths, rider of Purse&ller in the 6ame race, for giving false information to the stewards. The decision of the District Committee was to the effect that the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club be confirmed so far v- the same to tho owner of Crossus (G. F. Hardy), the period of whoso disquali-

fication was fixed at three months, and so far as it relates to J. S. O'Neill, trainer of Croesus, and H. Griffiths, jockey, that it be not confirmed.
