I CANTERBURY COUNCIL DECIDED UPON. , A 'meeting of delegates from the "various lodges in Canterbury, convened by the Friendly Societies 1 Conference, was held in tho Druids' Hall, Worcester street, on Saturday evening, to oonsider tho advisability of forming a Friendly Societies' Council. The various Orders were represented as under: —IX). It., eight delegates; 1.0.0. F., M.U., . thirteen delegates; U.A.0.D., seventeen delegates; H.A.C.8.5., five delegates; 1.0.0. F., ten delegates; A.0.F., eleven delegates ; S. and D. Tcmperance, delegates. Bro.'F. George, U.A.0.D., was voted to the chair; aud- after explaining the objects for which the meeting was called, ho moved: —"That a Friendly Societies' Council for Canterbury be formed." Bro. M. J. Hartigan, 1.0.0. F., seconded tho motion, which, after a general discussion, was carried by 63 votes to 3." On the motion of Bro. Johnston, U.A.0.D.. Lyttclton, seconded bv Bro. Francis, U.A.0.D., the following delegates were elected as a sub-committee to draw up a constitution: —1.0.0. F., M.U.. Bros. Clark and Foster; U.A.0.D., Bros. Baty and Francis; A.OTF., Bros. Inglis and Paull; 1.0.0. F., Bros. Hartigan and Hunter: "S. and D. Tempcrance, Bros. Jones and Cooper: 1.0. R., Bros. Hassall and Taylor: H.A.C.8.5., Bros. Grimes and O'Brien.
