ASHBURTON.
•(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) Thomas Pennal (Mr Buchanan) was fined 20s, and ordered to pay solicitors' fee £1 Is, for diverting water from a county water-race. M. Dolan (Mr Buchanan) was charged with drunkenness in a railway carriage near Orari, on December 20th last; with using obscene language; with failing to produce his ticket when requested; with obstructing the guard in tho execution of his duty, and with behaving in a violent manner. Accused was fined £3 for using obscene language, and was convicted and discharged on the other charges. Francis Godwin was charged - with assaulting Michael Higgins at Ashburton, on December 26th last. Tho information_ was dismissed: R. Nealon, a Senior Cadet, was fined 20s and costs for failing to attend parades, while R. G. H. Alexander, L. G. Grice. and J. C. Pearce were convicted and discharged on tho understanding that they attended parades in tho future. Judgment was given by default, with costs, in the following civil cases:—J. J. Dolan v. AY. Ryan, claim £11 15s; George Meddins v. Sydney
Hands, claim £1 Is Id; A. A. Foolts v. B. T. Missen, claim £4 19s 8d; J ■_ and Co. v. Sydney Hands, claim £7 l<s 6d; and H. iU. Jones v. B. T. Missen, claim £2 Is 9d.
