NORTH ISLAND MEETS REQUIREMENTS. (rssss ASSOCIATION ' TXT.EGRAM.) WELLINGTON. January 12. Defenco Headquarters was able to report to-niglit that the Wellington military district'B quota for the 12th Reinforcements had been sent into camp complete in all details. There was a shortage of infantry recruits in the Wellington city draft, but it was covered by recruits sent in from othor parts of 'the district.. Recruiting in the city has been particularly good during the last day or two, no fewer than 42 men passed as medically fit being registered at the Buckle street office yesterday. The city has been called upon for many men lately to fill gaps in the camp, particularly in connexion with the 11th Reinforcements, and this fact is believed to explain the shortage reported on Tuesday, when the 12ths were mobilised.

Auckland's quota for the 12th Reinforcements. consisting of some 600 men, readied Wellington to-day, and was reported to be at full strength. The Canterbury draft is due here to-mor-row, and "the Otago draft will arrive 'on Friday. The exact position will not be known until the mobilisation is complete. but there is reason'to believe that the 12th Reinforcements will be brought to full strength by the end of the week. ' - The Defence Minister informed a reporter that the response to the call

for the 12th Reinforcements had been very much better than in the case of the 11th Reinforcements. He hoi>ed that when tho mobilisation was complete on Friday it would be found that the ranks of the latest Reinforcements had been filled, and the Dcfcnce Department was to have no anxiety on that score. Thp shortage repotted in connexion with the lltli Reinforcements had been allocated to* various districts, and he was informed that the Wellington district had found nearly all the men reouired from it to fill the gaps in that draft. Tlie extent of the response front other districts had not yet been reported, but he hoped to have both the 11th and 12tli Reinforcements complete within the week. SOUTH CANTERBURY'S DRAFT. ■ (press association telegram.) TIMARU, January 12. L'he 12th Reinforcements left' to-day. Timaru supplied 56 men, Waimate 12, and Temuka seven. Speaking at Timaru, Mr J. Craigie, M.P., apDealecl to eligibles to come forward and avoir! being driven. He was ii-. favour of conscription, and had been told by returned soldiers that if tbey had to so hack again they would not associate with conscripts. He believed they meant it, and that conscripts would be looked on with contempt by the volunteers. THE RECRUITING BOARD. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, January 12. The Prime Minister stated • to-night that a temporary secretary to the Recruiting Board would lie appointed almost at once.
