ASHBURTON.

About 100 of the country members of tho C Company of tho 2nd (.South Canterbury) Regiment are now in camp at the Ashburton' Show Grounds for a week's training. Lieut. P. A. S. Stephens is in charge, and instruction is being given by Captain H. S. Robinson, N.Z.S.C., and Staff-Sergeant Major Johnston. A tent for recreation purposes has been provided by tho members of the C.E.M.S.. the arrangements being under the direct control of the Rev. J. R. Burgin. In-spito of a drenching and incessant rain, tho men paraded in full foice under Major Childs yesterday morning, and attended Divine service at St. Stephen's Anglican Church. Members of the Regimental Band made the journey by motor-car from Timaru, and were in good time to head the Territorials on their march to the church. Thero was also a strong muster under ex-Sergt-.-Major "Mitchell, of the newly-formed Citizens' Defence Corps, as well as a number of the Senior Cadets. The service, which wa_ conducted by the, Rev. J. R. Burgin, was commenced by the choir and tho whole congregntion singing in a very hearty manner the National Anthem.
