GREENPARK.

Last Thursday evening the, Groenpark School was taxed to its utmost to pro- j vide, accommodation for a most de- i Hghtful function. This was a social | tendered by the residents to Mr and Mrs Hugh Cnrr. sen., in honour of tlieii; goldenwedding. Mr F. Hubbard presided. Tho evening was spent in panics, interspersed with musical items, provided by "Miss Lewington. Messrs C. Hansen, H. Lewington. T. Scholtok. C. Smith. E. Troworn, and G. "Whitelaw. Shortly before supper the chairman, in a. felicitous 6oeecn, enlarged on the neighbourly 'iialitios of both Mr and Mrs Cnrr. and in tho name of the residents presented each ■of them with a beautiful gold watch, with inscriptions thereon. Messrs J. B. Fleete, J. Silvester, and 0. "Whitelaw also 6poko in appreciative terms of the guests. Mr Can- suitably responded for his wife and himself, whereupon' an ample weddingcake was brought in by Mesdames Mawer, Fleete, and "YVhiteiawas bridesmaids,- and after being cut by Airs Carr, W3s handed round to'the' company. After supper a dance followed, for which Mr C. Lewis acted as M.C., and Mr W. Harvey as musician. Mr Carr is an old pioneer, having come .to Xew Zealand in 1857 on receivirg his discharge from the Navy at the close of the Crimean War. For years ho worked nndor Mr Pemborton in surveying thai part of Canterbury between the Ashley and the Hurunui rivers. Ho then followed farming, first' at Mount Grey Downs, and later at Groenpark, where ho has resided for the last twenty-three years. Mrs Carr has made her name a household word in the district as tho doctor's helpmate. By their sterling work and unfailing courtesy each has earned the unbounded esteem of the whole community.
