CHINAMAN ASSAULTED.

ANOTHER WELLINGTON AFFRAY. (SPE-IA- to. "the r__-s.") . WELLINGTON. July 10. A sensational and serious assault was committed on -a ; Chinaman named' Kwong On in a shop in."Wallace street last night. The Chinaman was struck on the head by his • assailant with a blunt instrument, and is suffering from injuries necessitating his removal to the hospital, where ho lies in a serious condition. From the facts gathered it appears that shortly after seven o'clock a man entered the shop and asked for 3d worth of peanute. Kwong turned his back to the man with the intention of executing the order, and as he did so he received several heavy blows on the head. Tho Chinaman fell to the floor suffering from two large scalp wounds and a ruptured blood vessel. Detective Cassells searched the vicinity and behind a fence found a formidable bludgeon in tbe shape of a length of lead piping wrapped* up in brown paper.
