HALSWELL.
The Public Hall was the scene of a vesy enjoyahlo function last Friday, when tho »iall Committoe invited the ladies- who had assisted ut the reconi bazaar to a social. There was a very largo number present, and dancing was kept up till the early hours. Duripg the evening Mr A. JSdmond Atnyes was the recepieat of a gold albert. Mr Gilmour, in making tho presentation, epoke in eiuogietie termi* of Mr Amyes, who was mainly instrumental iv originating and securing the erection of the Hall. General regret wasexprcssed that Mr Amyes had left tho district for South Canterbury.
