RICCARTON.

The Riccarton Borough Council met last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. R. Reynolds), and Crs. W. Helliwell, T. J. Stokes, J. Dempster, G. D. White, T. Waddell. E. J. Foster, and A. D. Ford. The Mayor, in his statement, referred to the deputation to tho Minister of Public Works with referonce to electrical matters, and suggested that, in view of the Minister's replies, 'there were only two courses open to the Council to link up with the city, i.e., to become a part of the city scheme, or to make the best terms posssible with the Government direct. He had also taken the opportunity, while in Wellington, to bring under the Minister's notice the suggestion to mako tho principal railway station at Addington, and utilise .the present Christchureh station for Lyttelton traffic only. Ho had also urged tho need for a footway from Hagley street through the railway reserve, for tho convenience of residents there, and the Minister had expressed sympathy with tho proposal. The Traffic Manager was to veport on the matter. The financial statement showed .—Receipts £25 19s yd, expenditure £253 10s 10d; credit balance, District Fund Account, £270 lis 4d; credit balance, No. 9 Loan Account, £18 2s 3d. Accounts amounting to £170 (is 2d were passed for payment. The action of the Finance. Committee in purchasing a section in Picton avenue was approved. On tho motion of Cr. Dempster, it was resolved, after some discussion, in which the idea was generally commended: — "That the various local bodies in and around Christchureh be invited to cooperate in bringing about a superannuation scherao for local bodies' employees."
