In the House of Commons, "Sir Clement Kinloch-Cooke asked Sir Edward Grey to enquire whether Australia would accept the responsibility of the administration of the New Hebrides. Sir Edward Grey said it was impossible to make 6tich a suggestion without asking whether Australia would itself undertake to purchase or make an exchange of territory.
