JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS.
Mr C. H. F.nsor. president of tha North Canterbury .armors' Union, and Mr A. J. Bell, tho union's organiser, intend visiting tho Cheviot district early next month on organising work. It is reported that large purchases of sheep are being mado in Southland by Canterbury buyers. Six thousand head are said' to have been railed nor fix during the past three, weeks. At the samo time, there is general complaint of a shortage of sheep in Southland. Southland farmers are getting good prices for their fat lambs this season. For first drafts several farmers have sold at 18s Cd to 20s. An "Kn&t Chatton farmer who received 18s Gil for his first draft, only obtained 10s for his iirsfc draft six years ago. The labour exchange opened by the executive of the North Canterbury Farmers' Union, at 184 Cashol street, has now been in operation for a week, under tho control of Mr A. J. Bell, the organiser of the Farmers' Union. >Ir Bell ronorts that during the past week a number of married couples and of ploughmen have beon wanted. But not all the applicants who havo attended at tho exchange have beon suitable. It is exwct.ry] that after the harvest is over little difficulty will be oxporieneed in filling the wants of farmers in respect to labour.
