. _ . AN OLD MAN'S END. An inquest was held yesterday eveniag' by Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., District Coroner, at the Hospital, on the circumstances connected with the death of Patrick Cashman, about 61 years of age, a well-known habitue of the Ashburton riverbed, who died yesterday morning. Deceased was arrested on a charge of drunkenness on August 16th and remanded to the Hospital next day, as he was unwell. ' ■ > Dr. E. A. Widdowson, house physician at the Hospital, stated that a postmortem examination showed that deceased had been suffering from hemor- ; rhage of the brain, and also from, chronic •Bright's disease. The cause of death was hemorrhage of the brain. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
