Hickory Wood, the pantomime- librettist. MR BERNARD QUARITCH. ("Times"-Sydney "Sun" Special Cable. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received August 29fch, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. The death is announced of Mr Bernard Quaritch, tho famous antiquarian and bookseller. Mr Bernard Quaritch was tho famous, son of a moro famous father. Mr Quaritch, senior, was a German by birth, and came to England in the ufties. Ho established a bookselling shop and publishing house in London, which in tune- became world-famous as a homo of rare books. By tho 'eighties ho was the greatest dealer in tho world in valuable books. The first Quaritch was the publisher of Fjtzgerald's "Omar Khayab," tho book fiinding its way into tho penny box before it vras recognised as a work of genius. Ho died in 1599, and his son Bernard maintained the reputation of the house as tho leading establishment of its kind. Ho was tho most prominent iiguro at all the great book sales, and generally outbid rivals for tho most prized volumes. He was a collector himself and a publisher.
