TOrday 25,000 acres, part of thefamous Mokhu Estate, Tairanaki, wcro ' offered for sale by auction at Palmerston North by Messrs Abraham- and Williams, Mx Porritt being tho auc-. tio >?er. Very great interest has been taken in this notable estate from i>no end of New '• Zealand to the other, and, although all of the sections wero not sold, it is understood that visitors \ from widely-distant parts aro etill engaged in examining the property with views of private'purchases. . Tho estate is eminently suited for pastoral purposes, being estimated to bo 2i sheep country on limestone and papa formation. On this estimate tho 25,000 acres sold to-day would carry over 60,000 sheen, a considerable addition to Taranakrs flocks. Tho land is at present heavily wooded, and will not, therefore, bo ready fot stocking for twelve months to come. The timber is chjefly tawa, aimu, tnatai, and rata, and eawmilling is flourishing in tho district. At tho sale twelvo sections were offered, and five of them were sold. under tiho hammer. The frvo eectione sold were Nos. Iβ, 3, 4, 5, and 18. Tho prices ranged from £3 to £4 per acre. The reserves of tno sections which were. passed in ranged from £2 5s to £3 10s, and in ono case £4. - These were held back for private treaty, and," several were immediately afterwards placed on offer. • , , .
