NORTH CANTERBURY RECEPTION.
A meeting of the combined, committees of North Canterbury was held at th« Rangiora Boroagh Council Chambers yesterday. Present:—The Mayor (Mr J. Sansom). Crs. Jennings, Walker, and C. W. Bell, Messrs G. McLean (chairman Kowai County), R. Evans (Eyre County), W. Mclntosh (Ashley County), and F. Horrell (Rangicxra County). A programme was received from the Athletic Association for a football match (kick-off at 11 a.m.), lunch, sack race, 100 yards race, wheelbarrow race, tug-of-war (10 a side), potato race, pick-a-back race, barrel race, four-legged race, and chainstepping, to finish at 4 p.m.. This was approved, and ordered to be printed. It was decided that the officers of tho ship act as handicappers. It was reported that a number of young ladies had volupteered their services to assist at the lunch and tea. A letter was received from the Kainpoi Borough Council declining to take part in the proceedings.
