MR W. R. MORRIS TO SUCCEED D. ROBERTSON.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) _ November 23. The Hon. R H. Rhodes, PostmaaterOoaeral, stated last evening that ho would recommend Mr W. R. Morris, Assistant-Secretary of tho Post and lelcgrapn Department, for the position of secretary, to succeed Mr Robertson, who was been appointed a Civil Service Commissioner, and that further promotions wiuca would follow Mr uilorria's elevation had not yet been imaliy considered.

Mr Morns, who was bora in Dublin I m 1653, and educated at Bectivo ColI lege, joined the New Zealand Postal De- | partrncnt in May, 1876, but prior to coming to tho Dominion he had experienco in tho money order and savings bank department in the Dublin (Ireland) Post Office. Sir Morris joined tho New Zealand Postal Department iv Christchurch as a temporary clerk in tho Money Order Office,and subsequently succeeded Mr Duncan Cuming as Money Order Clerk in Christ-church. Hfo was transferred to a similar position in the Wellington office, and after filling tho position for some years he was promoted to the position of Assistant Accountant in the General xost Office. On tho resignation of Mr George Gray, Mr Morris was promoted to tho post or Accountant, and continued to hold that position till, on tho death of Mr Thomas Rose, he was appointed Assistant Secrotary and Inspector, the duties of which position ho was discharging till his appointment as Secretary. Mr Morris is very well liked throughout the service, tho members of which, it is stated, will have every confidence in him as an administrator. Mr Morris is .i nephew of the lato Sir William Howard Russell, tho famous war correspondent, and a brother of Mr R. B. Morris, chief post-master. Christchurch, and of Councillor C. D. Morris.
