Mr EL D. Acland returned to Christchurch yesterday from a visit to England and other parts. Mr A. S. Paterson arrived from Wellington yesterday.

A message from Westport states that Mr M. McCarthy has been elected chairman of the Bullor County Council.

Ever since tho Council was constituted Mr Orboil has been its chairman, and he was unanimously re-elected at the annual meeting on Tuesday, for the twentyfifth successive year.

At tho recent Itoyal College of Music examination, Miss Vera Barker, of Christchurch, who has been studying music at St. Dominic's College, Dunedin. passed tho teachers' examination, gaining 167 marks. Miss Barker received great praise, from the examiner, Mr Victor Booth, and much credit is duo to her teachers on her success.

Mr C. W. Haggitt, of the Duncdin staff of tae New Zealand Insurance Company, has been promoted to the \Vest Australian branch. Mr E. Rawson. Stipendiary Magistrate at Westport, has been transferred to the Waikato district, with Hamilton as headquarters. Mr Wyvern Wilson has b::en appointed S.M. and AVarden at Westport, in succession to Mr Rawson. Mr \V. C. Buchanan. M.P , has just completed thirty years' membership of the Wellington Education Board.
