FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

Messrs H. S. Fitter and Sons, writing on jrune 9th, say: —"In consequence of the.hot weather, tho conveyance of meat by long railway journeys in ordinary cars bas been very risky, and some of that which has arrived during the past week has been in a more or less unsound condition, and this means, in most cases, a serious loss lb the sender. The result is that at present Homekilled mutton is shorter and prices are ruling higher. . "The advanced prices asked for New Zealand -mutton seem, to a certain extent, to have checked the demand. Tho future shipments from New Zealand will, no doubt, be very short, but as the bulk of tho trade will ho supplied by River Plate mutton, the prices will naturally depend to a very large extent on tho supply from that oountry. Tho London stores are still very full, and the •■ discharge of the * Arawa and Rangitira is being delayed on that account. "The demand for New Zealand lamb is very good, and large quantities are going into consumption. Prices continue to firm up gradually, Dt dre still fairly moderate, and a big business should be dono during the next five or six weeks, after which the demand will naturally begin to fall off. There are still a few Australian lambs ori hand, but some of these are showing signs of storage, and do not find a very ready sale: The demand is stiTT for small lamlis. Large lambs and tegs are not going quite so well. ~, , "A heavy supply of Argentine chilled beef (some in very uau condition), arriving just in the very not weather, has ! had a disastrous effect on tho trade, and prices have quite collapsed. The demand for frozen bee£ is, of course, very limited, and present quotations are practically nominal."
