The Waimate District High School Committee met on December 6th There wore present:—Messrs G. ■\\ Cochrane, (chairman), Q. .Shackistwj A. Colville, C. Jackson. W. Lee, \\ Grant, and R. Inkster. The jieadl master's report was road, showing roll number of scholars attending the l*rimary School -192, average attendant* 44-3, roll number attending Higa School 58, average attendance 50. let Infant School wus still over-crowtfcit, but tho troublo would be temporarily relieved at the beginning of the year, when the upper class would be* pro! motcd to Standard 1 room.
The quarterly meeting of the Wattaki Licensing Committee was held on December 6th. Presput: —Mr T. Hutchinson, S.M. (chairman), and Messrs. Francis, Revs. M. Gibson andji. Garland. A conditional license tfas granted to Mr 0. Connolly, licensee of Studholme Junction Hotel for a booth at the annual Caledonian sports at \Vainiate, and a 'resolution was adopted thnt if drunkenness occurred on tbo ground at the sports or races in question, the Committee would not. grant a license for a booth at these ga,{herings in future. A transfer of (lie license of the Railway Hotel, Ktuw, from J. CahiH to T. G. Grant,, *« granted. 4 ~.'
