Tho Paciiic Cablo Board's amended estimates to March, 1911, give receipts £135,000, expenditure £189,546, and for the following year, receipts £1-10,000, expenditure £188.009. Sir George Reid, interviewed, stated that ho had forwarded to the Australian Government information regarding tho Iceland cable project, which experts suggest is worthy of tho fullest immediate investigation. "The Times" says that the financial estimate i.s thoroughly reliable, and .hopes tho Imperial Government will reconsider its refusal to promote a Stateowned Atlantic cable. Co2>cnhagen messages state that the scheme is much commented on, becauso Denmark would thereby secure communication with Greenland. The Canadian Government has entered into negotiations with tho Great Northern Telegraph Company, whose lines would be used. It is believed tho scheme lias good prospects, but final arrangements have yet to bo made between the Canadian and British Governments and the Great Northern Company.
