MR EDWARD DUNFORD.
Another of the Canterbury pilgrims in the person of Mr Edward Dunford died recently at Greymouth, where-fife had been residing for some years. Mr Dunford arrived in Lyttelton at the end of 1851 in the Cressy, one of the historic first four ships. He had his share of the hardships and strenuous work of tho early settlers, and with two of his brothers established the business at Rakaia now owned by Mr C. A. C. Hardy, M.P. The Dunford family, prior" to, tho erection of a bridge over the Rakaia, used to undertake thedifficuit anel dangerous task oi piloting the travellers in the early* days over tie Rakaia River.
